The Toronto Maple Leafs have been up against it since losing two straight to go down 3-1 in their first-round series against the Boston Bruins.

Well, they got one back when Matthew Knies scored the overtime game-winner in Game 5 to push the series to Game 6.

But the hill is only getting steeper for Toronto.

After missing Game 5, leading scorer Auston Matthews has been ruled out for Game 6. Matthews was pulled by the team doctor in the second period of Game 4 and has not played since due to an illness.

The Maple Leafs got the win in Game 5, despite missing their best player. But can they do it again in Game 6?

If they want their season to stay alive and force a Game 7, they have no choice.

Tyler Yaremchuk: If the Toronto Maple Leafs win tonight, it’s Game 7 Leafs-Bruins on Saturday night. And that would be a hell of a way to wrap up the first round… Tonight, Game 6, no Auston Matthews again… You can win once without your best player. Can you win twice in a row against this Bruins team?

Frank Seravalli: You can… Here’s the big question that the Toronto Maple Leafs have to ask themselves: Who’s going to be the guy? Is it going to be you, John Tavares? Is it going to be you, William Nylander?… It doesn’t matter who it is, but someone has to step up for the Toronto Maple Leafs because they cannot score. 10 goals scored in five games… And the best goal scorer on the planet is now out of the lineup for the second consecutive game. They’ve got enough talent to compete. But they’ve got to show more than just Joseph Woll bailing you out in Game 5 and enabling you to get to OT and win… It can’t all be on a young netminder.
