NHL player prop bets (Feb. 26): Shorthanded Senators counting on Stutzle vs. Jets

Seamus Casey Anytime Goalscorer: +1300 Sports Interaction
Casey kicked off his NHL career with three goals in his first eight games, before being sent back down to the minors as the New Jersey Devils defense corps returned to full health. He finally got another opportunity to play at the NHL level on Sunday, and recorded yet another goal, as well as three shots on target.
The young blue-liner has scored on 44.4% percent of shots in his NHL career. He’s obviously due for some heavy regression offensively, and won’t be remotely close to a 0.37 goal-per-game pace over a larger sample of play.
However it is clear that Casey features an excellent shot, and none of his four NHL goals have been simply fluky bounces from the point. He’s shown strong offensive promise in all levels of play, and to this point his offensive upside has obviously translated at the NHL level.
He was once again paired with Luke Hughes at Wednesday’s morning skate, a unit which will likely be allotted a lot of offensive zone starts, and should do a good job of generating offense from the point.
At a really long number of +1300, I’m happy to ignore the fact that Casey is due for regression, and bank on the idea that he will prove to be a better than average goal-scoring defender moving forward.
Tim Stutzle Over 2.5 Shots on Goal: +140 Sports Interaction
The Ottawa Senators will be desperate to snap their four-game losing skid on Wednesday when they host a Winnipeg Jets side which has won 10 consecutive games. With three key forwards in Brady Tkachuk, Josh Norris, and Shane Pinto all out of the lineup due to injury, head coach Travis Green will likely deploy massive minutes to Stutzle’s unit in the majority of game scripts.
Stutzle was one of few bright spots in the Senators’ return to action Saturday versus the Montreal Canadiens, as he recorded one goal, one assist, and four shots on goal in 20:24 of time-on-ice. The dynamic young forward looked to have an extra step following the layoff, after offering some slightly lesser play throughout late January.
Stutzle has recorded three or more shots in five of the last 10 games, which would mean turning a strong profit backing him to do so at a price of +140.
While the Jets are a tougher than average defensive matchup, the Sens’ depleted lineup should work in favor of backing Stutzle to record three shots in this particular matchup given the additional ice time he will likely receive.
