Report: Canucks defenceman Noah Juulsen likely done for season

The Vancouver Canucks took another injury hit on Thursday, with defenceman Noah Juulsen’s season likely over.
Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK News reported that the Canadian right-handed defenceman has undergone surgery on his hernia, taking him out of the lineup for the Canucks remaining 24 games of 2024-25.
Sounds like D Noah Juulsen's season is over, surgery this week on his hernia.#Canucks
— Rick Dhaliwal (@DhaliwalSports) February 27, 2025The 27-year-old has played 35 games for the Canucks this season, failing to register a point. He has often filled in whenever injuries have arisen on the blueline, including Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek.
Juulsen last played back on Jan. 14 in a 6-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, sitting out for several games afterward before being placed on the injured reserve on Saturday. At the time, his injury was undisclosed.
His absence becomes the latest in a long list of injuries for the Canucks in 2024-25, who have also missed significant games for centerman Elias Pettersson and goaltender Thatcher Demko as both have dealt with injuries throughout the season. Forward JT Miller also missed 10 games on personal leave before being traded to the New York Rangers on Jan. 31.
Per PuckPedia, Juulsen’s two-year $1.5 million contract with a cap hit of $775,000 per season is set to expire at the end of the campaign. Since joining the Canucks, he’s made 109 NHL appearances.
Originally selected 26th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Juulsen has spent time with three organizations, skating in NHL games for the Canadiens, Florida Panthers and Canucks. In 2023-24, he hit a career-high for NHL games played, with 54 in Vancouver.
Despite dipping below the Pacific Division top three, the Canucks hold the second Western Conference wild-card spot with 65 points. The team has hopes of returning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a second-round appearance in 2024. The Calgary Flames are just one point back with a game in hand.
After winning 3-2 in overtime against the Kings on Wednesday, the Canucks visit the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night before wrapping up a five game road trip against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
