Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, as reported by Dan Murphy on Thursday.

Hughes was absent from Vancouver’s morning skate on Thursday, as was forward Drew O’Connor, who missed the skate due to an illness.

The nature of Hughes’ injury is still unknown, but he did temporarily exit Tuesday’s 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. The defenseman appeared to be favoring his left arm after getting tangled up with Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele.

The Canucks certainly hope Hughes doesn’t miss much time, if any at all. The Orlando, Florida native has already missed four games with injury this season. When healthy, he is one of the brightest young stars in the game, and his on-ice performance this season has not disappointed. He has put up a goal and 12 assists for 13 points in just 14 games so far.

Hughes, 26, was selected seventh overall by Vancouver in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Now in his seventh full-time NHL season, the former Michigan Wolverine has already racked up 60 goals and 362 assists for 422 total points in 447 career games, which is spectacular production for a defenseman. His career-best campaign came in 2023-24, when he scored 17 goals and added 75 assists for an eye-popping 92 points en route to a Norris Trophy. Last season, he notched 16 goals and 60 assists for 76 points in just 68 games played.

There is no indication that O’Connor will miss any games due to the illness that kept him out of today’s skate. The 27-year-old winger has four goals and four assists for eight points with the Canucks this season.

Vancouver will begin a three-game road trip through the southeastern United States when they face the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. They’ll then visit the the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday and the Florida Panthers on Monday.
