Brady Tkachuk has been named captain of the Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators have a new captain.

The team announced on Friday that Brady Tkachuk will wear the “C” on his jersey, becoming the 10th captain in franchise history.

The Senators selected Tkachuk with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NHL draft. He immediately broke into the league with a 45-point season in 2018-19 and has scored 62 goals and 129 points over 205 NHL games all told.

Tkachuk will become Ottawa’s first captain since Erik Karlsson, who was traded to the San Jose Sharks during the 2018 offseason. Karlsson was the team’s captain for four seasons, between 2014-15 and 2017-18. The Senators’ longest-serving captain in history is Daniel Alfredsson, who wore the “C” between 1999-00 and 2012-13.

Brady is also the second Tkachuk to serve as a team captain in the NHL. His father, Keith Tkachuk, was the captain of the Winnipeg Jets and Phoenix Coyotes before he was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 2001. There has also been speculation that Matthew Tkachuk, Brady’s older brother, will eventually take over as the captain of the Calgary Flames.

Brady Tkachuk has four points through seven games for the Senators this season. He inked a seven-year, $57.5 million contract with Ottawa back in October.
