When is the NHL All-Star Game in 2025?

The NHL All-Star Game will not occur in 2025, instead the NHL will be hosting the Four Nations Face-Off. This best-on-best tournament will pit the top players from Canada, the United States, Sweden, and Finland against each other in order to crown the top hockey nation in the world.

How many games are in an NHL season?

In the NHL, each team plays 82 regular season games. This means during the season there are a total of 1,312 games played during the regular season, plus the potential for 105 NHL Playoffs games if each seven-game series goes the distance.

How are NHL games scheduled?

NHL games are scheduled based on the division and conference of each respective franchise. Each team plays 41 home games and 41 away games, 26 games will be against teams within their own division, 24 games are played against teams in the other division within their conference, and finally the remaining 32 games are played against each team from the other conference.
This structure allows for each team to play each other for a minimum of two games, with each squad getting a home ice clash in each game.

When does the NHL season start?

The NHL season generally starts near the end of September or beginning of October. The first game of the 2024-25 NHL season started on October 4th as the New Jersey Devils faced off against the Buffalo Sabres in Czechia. The first North American NHL game took place on October 8th as the St. Louis Blues took on the Seattle Kraken.

Are there any international NHL games?

Yes, there are international NHL games. As a part of their “Global Series”, during the 2024-25 NHL season teams play each other in regular season matchups in neutral playing sites outside of North America. These games include the New Jersey Devils vs Buffalo Sabres in Czechia and the Dallas Stars VS Florida Panthers in Finland.

When is the NHL schedule released?

The NHL season schedule is released in the offseason, typically during the Summer. The 2024-25 NHL season schedule was officially announced on July 2nd, which further added to the excitement of the NHL offseason as it opened on July 1st.
