Jets fall short in comeback; lose 5-4 to Avs (OT)
The Winnipeg Jets scored two goals in the final four minutes of regulation to tie the game at 4-4 and send it to overtime. However, they took a penalty in the extra frame and Cale Makar (D) ended the game with three seconds left in the powerplay, one of his two points (1G / 1A) on the night. Nathan MacKinnon (C) also had two points for the Avalance (1G / 1A) and recorded 11 shots on goal, the third time this season he has surpassed 10 shots in a game. Mark Scheifele (C) and Nikolaj Ehlers (LW, RW) both had two point games (2G/ 1A) in the loss. The two have been paired on a line with Paul Stastny (C, LW) for some time now and have been almost exclusively leading the Jets’ offence. The trio of Scheifele, Ehlers, and Stastny have been involved in 13 of the last 16 goals scored by the Jets, spanning their last seven games (3-3-1). Scheifele has 24 points (9G / 15A) in his last 16 games while Ehlers has 17 points (10G / 7A) in his last 14 games.

— NHL (@NHL) April 9, 2022Bruins top Lighting 2-1 in OT
For much of the season, it was common consensus that rookie Jeremy Swayman (G) was outplaying counterpart Linus Ullmark (G), but that consensus has changed of late. Swayman has a .884 SV% over his last three starts (1-2-0) while Ullmark saved 28 of 29 shots on Friday to improve to 6-0-0 with a .938 SV% since March 15th. Jake DeBrusk (LW, RW) had two points (1G / 1A) for the Bruins to give him 10 points (7G / 3A) in his last seven games. Tampa Bay has now lost four straight (0-2-2) for the first time this season and has dropped 10 of their last 16 (6-8-2).
Low-event game capped by high-event final minute
The New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes managed only 21 shots apiece on Friday as the Islanders skated away with a 2-1 victory. Vincent Trocheck (C) scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes with 57 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 1-1, but Kyle Palmieri (LW, RW) stormed back on the following shift to score the game-winning goal for the Islanders with only 15 seconds remaining. Palmieri has five points (2G / 3A) in his last three games. Jean-Gabriel Pageau (C) also scored for the Islanders to give him goals in three consecutive games and six points (5G / 1A) in that span. Teuvo Teravainen (LW, RW) and Sebastian Aho (C) have been glued at the hip for most of the season, but the duo has found themselves on separate lines in recent games. The Hurricanes have lost three of their last four games (1-3-0), averaging only 2.25 goals per game. Teravainen only has two points (2G / 0A) in that span after having nine points (1G / 8A) in his previous six.

The Florida Panthers have trailed at some point in five of their last six games but still find themselves on a six-game winning streak. On Friday, they came behind again, scoring three unanswered goals to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3. Sam Reinhart (C, RW) led the way with two points (1G / 1A) to give him eight points (3G / 5A) in his last six games. Claude Giroux (C, RW) had a two-point night (1G / 1A) for the third consecutive game and now has 11 points (2G / 9A) in nine games as a Panther. Jonathan Huberdeau (LW) recorded an assist to extend his point streak to 10 games (7G / 12A / 19PTS). Sergei Bobrovsky (G) had another shaky outing, allowing three goals on 12 first-period shots, before settling in to shut the door the rest of the way and finish with 19 saves on 22 shots. Despite the Panthers having won Bobrovsky’s last three starts, he has a startling .787 SV% in those games.
Blues win potential playoff preview over Wild
For the majority of the season, the second and third-place spots in the Central Division have been occupied by the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues. On Friday, the two teams met as the Blues came from behind to defeat the Wild, 4-3 in overtime. The Wild had a 3-1 lead in the third period but the Blues clawed back to tie the game, capped off by a highlight-reel goal by Brayden Schenn (C, LW, RW). Schenn extended his point streak to seven games (3G / 6A / 9PTS).
