Daily NHL betting guide: November 18

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bet

Florida Panthers (vs. NJD)

After losing all four games on their road trip, the Panthers returned home on Tuesday and blew the Islanders out 6-1. They lost Aleksander Barkov in that game and come into Thursday at -196 favourites. The model likes Florida enough (75.05 Win%) that I think we can safely ignore Barkov missing. Florida has yet to lose (8-0-0) on home ice this season, averaging 4.88 goals-for and 2.13 goals against per game.

1 Unit Bet: FLA -196

Carolina Hurricanes (@ ANA)

The Hurricanes are the best team in the NHL right now at 12-2-0 (.857 P%) and the top team in the league dating back to the start of last season (48-14-8). They are tied for the league-lead in xGF/60 (2.82) and 10th in xGF% (51.78). Meanwhile, despite their top-6 playing terrific, Anaheim has the ninth-worst xGF% (47.91). This looks like a mismatch on paper and the sportsbooks are giving us a nice number at -150–the model sees them as -176 favourites.

1 Unit Bet: CAR -150

Vegas Golden Knights (vs. DET)

The Red Wings are struggling right now, losing three of their last four while being outscored 14-to-8. Still, it’s difficult to trust the Golden Knights as big favourites with all of their injuries.
