Evander Kane placed on LTIR, out for 3-4 months
The Edmonton Oilers have announced that forward Evander Kane will miss the next 3-4 months after his wrist was sliced during a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The incident occurred early during the second period when Kane and Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers collided along the boards. Myers knocked Kane down, and a scrum ensued, with Lightning forward Patrick Maroon catching Kane’s wrist with his skate.
Oilers GM Ken Holland said Kane had a deep cut on his wrist and required surgery, but was OK.
In a statement posted online, Kane thanked the doctors, paramedics and the training staff for both teams after suffering the injury.
“Thank you all for the kind wishes and prayers from over the past several hours,” Kane said. “Obviously last night was an extremely scary moment for me and I’m still in a little bit of shock. I would like to thank the entire training staff of the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lighting, along with all the doctors and paramedics who rushed to help treat and repair my injury. Without all of you, I know things would’ve been much worse and I’m sincerely grateful. I won’t be back next game, but I will be back and I look forward to being back on the ice playing the game I love alongside my teammates in front of our great fans.”

The Oilers have not announced a return timeline for Kane, but Ilya Mikheyev missed three months with a similar injury in 2019 after getting cut by Jesper Bratt.
Kane had been a big part of Edmonton’s top six this season, registering 13 points in 14 games. Kane had 39 points in 43 regular season games with the Oilers last year, but really popped off with 13 goals in 15 playoff games en route to a spot in the Western Conference final.
