Logan Cooley has changed his NCAA commitment to the University of Minnesota
Logan Cooley, a top prospect for the 2022 NHL draft, has changed his NCAA commitment.
Cooley was originally committed to go to Notre Dame in the fall of 2022 but he’s now committed to the University of Minnesota. Daily Faceoff contributor Chris Peters noted that Cooley had changed his Instagram bio to say ‘University of Minnesota commit.’
Cooley’s Instagram story also featured a screenshot of the University of Minnesota’s logo, the golden gopher…
Earlier this month, Peters ranked Cooley as the top prospect in his 2022 NHL mid-season draft rankings, taking the spot from Shane Wright of the Kingston Frontneacs…
“I’m starting to view the Cooley-Wright debate similar to the Jack Hughes-Kaapo Kakko debate, only this time they’re both centers,” Peters said. “When push came to shove, who was the more explosive, dynamic player? It was Hughes then and it feels like it’s Cooley now. The reason he has challenged and now surpassed Wright on my board after much debate is that he’s simply the more dynamic player and has enough qualities that leave me more confident at this point in time that he projects more favorably as a top-of-the-lineup star.”
Through 12 USHL games for the United States Development Program Junior Team, the Pittsburgh native has five goals and 15 points. He picked up one assist in one game for the United States at the World Juniors in December before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
The Golden Gophers currently sit at No. 5 in the NCAA men’s ice hockey rankings with a 19-11-0 record. Their team features 15 different players who have been drafted by NHL clubs.
