Player numbers, jersey details revealed for 4 Nations Face-Off
The NHL, NHLPA, and Fanatics have unveiled the jersey numbers for all players participating in the 4 Nations Face-Off, set to take place on Feb. 12-20 in Montreal and Boston.
Canada and Finland are still missing one player each, with Alex Pietrangelo (Canada) and Miro Heiskanen (Finland) having to pull out over the past week.
Most players were able to keep their jersey numbers from their original NHL teams. Most notably, Dylan Larkin, who wears 71 with the Detroit Red Wings, chose to go back to his usual USA Hockey number of 21, despite 71 being unclaimed.
Teams will wear just one jersey style the whole tournament, meaning no dark + light home and away jerseys like in the NHL. Canada will wear red, Finland will don white, Sweden will rock their typical yellow and blue and the United States will sport their traditional navy blue.
Canada’s jersey features a textured Maple Leaf with a curved “Canada” in white text. Finland’s jersey has “Soumi” in blue bold text above the national coat of arms featuring a golden lion. Sweden’s jersey isn’t much different from the traditional design seen in most other international competitions, with the Tre Kronor featuring predominantly on the front. USA, meanwhile, is going with just “USA” in big font, but the jersey will have 13 stripes featured on it to represent the original 13 colonies that eventually formed the United States.
The 4 Nations Face-Off begins Feb. 12 in Montreal, with Canada and Sweden opening up the action at 8:00 PM ET at the Bell Centre. USA and Finland will meet up on Thursday before all four teams head into battle on Saturday, Feb. 15. The tourney will shift to Boston for Feb. 17, with the championship game taking place on Feb. 20 at TD Garden.
The tournament marks the first time NHLers have competed in best-on-best international hockey since Canada took home gold at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto. The NHL has not participated in the past two Olympics, with teams last competing in Russia back in 2014.
