4 Nations Face-Off MVP odds: Good value on Crosby if Canada can win rematch with USA

The 4 Nations Face-Off is nearing its conclusion, and the race for tournament MVP is heating up. With a mix of star power and breakout performances, the odds reflect a competitive field led by Connor Hellebuyck (+250) and Connor McDavid (+275).
Both have been instrumental for their respective teams, with Hellebuyck delivering elite goaltending for the United States and McDavid showcasing his dynamic play for Canada.
However, while both players deserve to be in contention for the award, from a betting perspective, I think there’s more to consider when ranking the best bets to win the MVP award.
1. Sidney Crosby (+500)
If there was any doubt that Sidney Crosby could still compete with the best players in the world at the age of 37, it was immediately put to rest following his standout performance in Canada’s 4-3 win over Sweden in the opener. Crosby set up three of Canada’s goals, including Mitch Marner’s overtime winner, and was named Player of the Game. He then assisted his fellow Nova Scotian, Nathan MacKinnon, on the eventual game-winner against Finland before scoring an empty-net goal to secure Canada’s place in the final.
Heading into Thursday’s rematch with the United States, Crosby is tied for the tournament lead in points (five) and assists (four). If he can help lead his team to another victory, he’ll be the top pick for MVP honors. That is, unless McDavid or MacKinnon really step up.
2. Nathan MacKinnon (+650)
Unsurprisingly, Nathan MacKinnon has been one of Canada’s best players. The 29-year-old has yet to register an assist, but leads Team Canada in goals with three, and his two-goal performance against Finland earned him Player of the Game honors. He’s a big reason why Canada will have a chance to avenge its 3-1 loss to the United States on Thursday.
According to Sports Interaction, MacKinnon has the best odds (+210) of scoring a goal in the final, which makes sense, and the fact that he’s got the longest odds of any of Team Canada’s MVP contenders makes him a more worthwhile bet than McDavid, in my opinion.
3. Connor Hellebuyck (+250)
Connor Hellebuyck is a virtual lock to win the Vezina Trophy for the second consecutive season and the third time in his career. He is also the favorite to earn MVP honors at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The 31-year-old has gone 2-0-0 in the tournament, allowing just one goal in each of his outings.
Hellebuyck stopped 19 of 20 shots in the opener against Finland and 25 of 26 shots on Saturday against Canada, giving the Michigan native a .957 save percentage heading into the tournament final. Unless he falters on Thursday and Canada wins, it’s hard to see any of his teammates overshadowing his performance.
4. Connor McDavid (+275)
As expected, Connor McDavid has been the best player on the ice throughout this tournament, but his performances have been overshadowed by other teammates. He has yet to win Player of the Game honors, and while he is the second-highest point producer overall, he doesn’t lead Canada in goals or points.
That said, I don’t find it unreasonable that the odds favor him as the most likely Canadian player to be crowned the tournament’s MVP, given his potential to perform in the final. However, from a betting perspective, it likely makes more sense to bet on him delivering in the final rather than betting on him to be named MVP given his short odds. I mean, given his shot volume, wouldn’t it be smarter to bet on him to score an anytime goal at +230 odds?
5. Jack Eichel (+4000)
Given all the talent on Team USA’s roster, Jake Guentzel’s performance has been all the more impressive. He had a goal and an assist in the tournament opener against Finland and scored two crucial goals in the 3-1 win over Canada.
While he isn’t the team leader in points—Zach Werenski’s five assists have him tied with Crosby for the tournament lead—Guentzel is tied with Jack Eichel for the most points (four) among American forwards. That said, Eichel’s 40-1 odds make him an intriguing bet considering how impactful he can be.
Of course, players like Auston Matthews, Matthew Tkachuk, and Brady Tkachuk are still in the mix, but none of them are at 100 percent, which could limit their impact. However, if Team USA emerges victorious, the MVP award will be Hellebuyck’s to lose.
