A Jeremy Swayman, Darcy Kuemper fight would have been electrifying

Hockey fans almost saw a rare sight on Sunday night as Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman and LA Kings netminder Darcy Kuemper nearly dropped the gloves before officials got in the way.
Both goalies had removed their helmets and were set to fight near center ice after Bruins forward Khusnutdinov collided with Kuemper but were held back before they could get to it.

— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) March 24, 2025There has not been an NHL goalies fight since Feb. 1, 2020, when the Edmonton Oilers’ Mike Smith and the Calgary Flames’ Cam Talbot fought ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli dove into the lack of a goalie fight on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.
Yaremchuk: I’m a guy who’s got a short fuse with officials. I think you know that, but this is just another level. Let them go – Swayman vs. Kuemper. Who loses by letting these guys fight?
Listen, with the way things have been going recently for Jeremy Swayman…Last night against LA, seven goals against on 23 shots, maybe it could have knocked swimming back into a decent mindset.
Seravalli: Make this the 679th reason why I would love to have a pool reporter to be able to ask questions to an official. These two guys are very willing combatants. I don’t know if it was any part of it because Swayman took off the helmet. Is that where they drew the line?
We’ve seen goalie fights before; we’ve had them before. There are backups ready and willing to enter the game if it were to somehow cross the line. This takes away from some significant theatre in the game that, frankly, we all deserved.
You can take your frustrations out on Darcy Kuemper. I mean, don’t make him your punching bag, but at least give everyone a show?
