After McDavid, which other NHLers could register 1,000th point in 2024-25?

Connor McDavid put himself in the 1,000 point club on Thursday when he scored the Edmonton Oilers‘ first goal of the game, and in doing so, he became the fourth-fastest player to achieve the feat behind only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Mike Bossy.

Now, all eyes are on who will be the next player to hit 1,000 points this season. Brad Marchand is the closest, needing only 58 points to get there, but at age 36, he’s not as productive as he once was to get there by seasons end. Nathan MacKinnon is right behind him needing only 68 points, while Nikita Kucherov is just three points away from 900, and could very well see that race go down to the wire if he keeps up his current production.

Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk talked about who they think will also hit 1,000 points in 2024-25 on Daily Faceoff Live.

Frank Seravalli: Marchand has really responded after a very quiet start to his season, but he needs 58 more points to get there, and he’s been hovering in the 60+ point range per season. So I think he’s probably going to be the one guy that falls short.

MacKinnon is a stone cold mortal lock. But I would suggest that even 103 points away, that is within sight of Nikita Kucherov this season. We’ve got approximately 80% of the season left for someone that’s put up massive numbers. I think Kucherov gets there this year. What do you say?

Tyler Yaremchuk: I think he will too. And when you look at the fact that he would need to be under two points per game as sort of a pace and he’s produced at that kind of a pace when you look at his numbers last year. I think he could do it and I could also see him be similar to McDavid in the sense of if he needs 10 points in his final four games this year, I could see Kucherov being the guy who’s just like “ding ding ding” with a couple of three point games and boom, he finds a way to get it in under the wire.

So I think all three of them get it. You mentioned Brad Marchand is starting to pick up the production after a bit of a slow start to the year. MacKinnon is the lock out of the group if he can stay healthy this season, so I actually think we end up getting all three.

And then after that, the next player I think who’s on the watch list is actually McDavid’s running made in Leon Draisaitl, who needs 128 more. He’s going to have to wait until next year, but he might be the only guy next year who gets there. So this year or next, we probably welcome four more players to the 1000 point club.
