The National Hockey League announced the finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy on Friday, tipping Florida Panthers centers Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart, alongside Tampa Bay Lightning center Anthony Cirelli.

Among the NHL’s marquee end-of-season awards, the Selke Trophy is annually given “to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game,” as voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Barkov, who will look to become the sixth player to repeat as Selke winner and win the trophy for the third time in his career, scored 20 goals and 71 points in 67 games this season, while also ranking among the Panthers’ top forwards in blocked shots with 54 and takeaways with 34.

In addition to winning the trophy in 2023-24, Barkov has been qualified as a finalist four times in the last five seasons.

Barkov’s teammate, Reinhart, led Florida with 39 goals and 81 points in 79 games, and played the most ice time per game with an average of 20:30. Additionally, he tied for third in the NHL with five shorthanded goals, and led Panthers forwards with 62 shot blocks and 24 takeaways.

While Barkov has established himself as the Panthers’ key defensive forward, Reinhart has developed into that role, earning himself finalist honors for the first time after finishing fourth in Selke voting in 2023-24.

Representing the Lightning, Cirelli had 27 goals and 59 points in 80 games in 2024-25, while taking 147 shorthanded faceoffs, the second most among Lightning players. Additionally, he blocked 73 shots and had 21 takeaways, ranking him among the top five of Tampa Bay’s forwards.

At 27 years old, he helped push the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the eighth straight season and would become the first in team history to win the trophy.

The winners of the Selke Trophy will be announced at a later date.
