San Jose Sharks center Alex Wennberg is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury and will miss the remaining two games of the club’s current road trip, head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Thursday.

Wennberg, 32, logged a season-low 16:29 of ice time in San Jose’s 3-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and sat out the club’s 4-3 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens the following night, with Ty Dellandrea taking his place in the lineup.

According to Warsofsky, Wennberg will be re-evaluated when the Sharks return home after finishing the week with games in Ottawa and Boston. The 32-year-old alternate captain has three assists and a minus-three rating in nine games with the Sharks this season.

The Sharks originally signed Wennberg as an unrestricted free agent from the New York Rangers in 2024. The 6’2″ center scored 55 points, including a career-high 18 goals, in 80 games with the Sharks in 2025-26, leading the club to extend him through 2029 at a $6 million cap hit.

A first-round pick (No. 14 overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 NHL Draft, Wennberg has collected 119 goals and 428 points in 878 career games over parts of 13 seasons to date with the Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Seattle Kraken, Rangers, and Sharks. The Stockholm product has also appeared in 58 playoff contests with Columbus, Florida, Seattle, and New York, racking up eight goals and 19 points.

The Sharks currently occupy the second wild card playoff spot in the early stages of the 2026-27 regular season, having compiled a 5-4-1 record through their first 10 games. In keeping with last season’s results, newly minted Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini currently has twice as many points as his next-closest teammates (Tyler Toffoli, Will Smith, and Ivar Stenberg).

Without Wennberg in the lineup, the Sharks are slated to return to action at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on Thursday to take on the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre.
