All-Star Skills Competition to feature events on both Las Vegas Strip and in the Belaggio Fountains
On Monday, the NHL announced details of the Skills Competition that will be held as part of the league’s All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas.
And boy oh boy are there some interesting new wrinkles.
During the event, which takes place this Friday at 7:30 PM (EST)/4:30 PM (PST), part of the competition will spill out of T-Mobile Arena and be held on the Belaggio Fountains.
This event, the Discover NHL Fountain Faceoff, will see participants travel by boat to a makeshift rink in the middle of the Belaggio Fountains, where they will be tasked with shooting pucks into five targets that float across the water.
This isn’t the only event in this Skills Competition that will take place outside of T-Mobile Arena, which will host the All-Star Game on Saturday. Another will be held in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip, which will be shut down to accommodate the action.
This event, dubbed Las Vegas NHL 21 in ’22, will see the league hang a rack of oversized playing cards, which players will have to shoot pucks at. The catch is that when a player hits a playing card with their shot, it’ll flip over to reveal a playing card.
In the style of a game of blackjack, the objective will be for the players to achieve a hand of “21” with the cards their shots turn over in the fewest amount of shots, without going over 21.
