Ducks acquire Ville Husso from Red Wings for future considerations

The Anaheim Ducks added extra depth between the pipes Monday in acquiring netminder Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations.
Through nine appearances with the Red Wings this season, Husso has posted a 1-5-2 showing alongside an .866 save percentage and 3.69 goals-against average. The 30-year-old Finnish-born goaltender has also split time with the AHL affiliated Grand Rapids Griffins where in 13 outings he went 8-4-0 with a .912 save percentage, 2.70 goals-against average, and two shutouts.
Originally chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft, Husso has totaled 141 career contests with the Blues and Red Wings in which he has notched a 70-45-18 career record alongside a .901 save percentage, 3.05 goals-against average, and seven shutouts.
Per PuckPedia, Husso is in the final year of a three-year contract that carries a $4.75-million annual average value and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason.
Husso joins a Ducks squad that already includes fellow goaltenders Lukas Dostal and John Gibson. This season, Dostal has assumed the starter’s role, posting a 16-13-5 record with a .910 save percentage, 2.92 goals-against average, and one shutout. Meanwhile, Gibson, who exited Saturday’s game versus the Boston Bruins after suffering an upper-body injury, owns a 9-9-2 record with a .916 save percentage and 2.61 goals-against average. This summer, Dostal can become a restricted free agent, while Gibson has two years remaining on his contract worth $6.4-million per season, according to PuckPedia.
On the season, the Ducks sit 25-24-7 and six points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the second wildcard seed in the Western Conference. After falling to the Red Wings in overtime on Sunday, Anaheim returns to the ice Tuesday to take on the Buffalo Sabres. Anaheim has not qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2018.
