The on-ice leader of the Quack Attack is off the pond.

On Thursday, the Anaheim Ducks announced that captain Mikael Granlund is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

While the team didn’t specify what is exactly ailing the veteran forward, there’s a chance that Granlund might not be in the lineup on Friday night, when the Ducks play host to the Boston Bruins.

When Granlund was hurt is also a mystery. The 34-year-old seemed no worse for wear in Anaheim’s last game on Tuesday night, when he registered an assist in a 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames, becoming the first player in franchise history to start a season with a six-game point streak. Granlund logged 20:52 of ice time in the defeat, close to his season average.

Granlund’s absence only adds to the list of significant names on Anaheim’s injured list. Troy Terry was placed on long-term injured reserve at the start of the season. Ryan Poehling is on injured reserve after spraining his MCL in last Saturday’s game against the Flames and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Forward Cutter Gauthier is also considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Even while the Ducks have had a solid start to the 2026-27 campaign, winning four of their first six games, having the injury bug hit this early could really clip their wings.

Granlund has certainly honed up to being named team captain prior to the season. He’s posted two goals and six assists for nine points in six games, sitting second on the team in scoring. He also has an even plus/minus while averaging 19:55 of ice time per game.

In 966 regular-season games in the NHL, Granlund has scored 200 goals and 459 assists for 659 points, with another 52 points in 89 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
