The Ducks are the next team to watch on the coaching market

After lackluster 2024-25 regular season, the Anaheim Ducks fired head coach Greg Cronin on April 19.
Cronin’s dismissal follows his second season with the Ducks in which the team finished with a 35-37-10 record and 16 points shy of the second wildcard seed in the Western Conference. In all, through two seasons in Anaheim, the first-time NHL head coach finished with a 62-87-15 showing.
With a number of big head coaching names available, the Ducks will have no shortage of potential targets. Will they go after a veteran Stanley Cup champion like Joel Quenneville or Peter Laviolette, or a relatively unknown looking for a shot?
On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Ducks’ coaching search and who might be the next bench boss in Anaheim.

Tyler Yaremchuk: What team do you think is trying to get things done from a coaching perspective?
Frank Seravalli: I think that team is the Anaheim DUcks. I think they’ve completed a handful of interviews, maybe more, and they’re moving on to round two soon. When you look at this list of candidates, it makes sense. A lot of teams today are sad that Jon Cooper is not going to be available, but Rick Tocchet is the guy who stands out as the shot caller. He’s going to pick where he wants to go.
Next up is the group of experienced guys who have gotten multiple chances before, including Dave Hakstol, Peter Laviolette, Joel Quenneville and John Tortorella. Jay Woodcroft is going to get a chance, as well, due to the number of openings.
If you include what could happen with the Los Angeles Kings and New York Islanders, there’s a potential for nine openings, which would be quite something.
