The Anaheim Ducks selected one of the top North American wingers available at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft by snapping up Beckett Sennecke of the OHL Oshawa Generals with the No. 3 overall pick.

Sennecke’s combination of size (6-foot-2 and 181 pounds) and skill make it easy to see why his stock rose steadily throughout the 2023-24 season. An elite stick handler whose edgework has grown by leaps and bounds since a recent growth spurt, the right-handed shot has potential to be an exciting talent for Anaheim

Few draft-eligible players are harder to stop once they’ve picked up steam, and though he lacks the snarl of a Cayden Lindstrom or Tij Iginla, it’s difficult to imagine either player embarrassing a defense the way Sennecke can.

Sennecke didn’t set the world on fire in the CHL like draft-eligible peers Berkly Catton (54 goals and 116 points) or Liam Greentree (36 goals and 90 points), collecting a comparatively tame 27 goals and 68 points in 63 games, but scouts have blamed his uninspired early-season production to (literal) growing pains. Once he learned how to integrate his newfound size and strength into his game down the stretch, his draft stock soared.

Sennecke was especially lethal during the postseason, when he piled up 10 goals and 23 points in 16 games to finish third in playoff scoring for the Generals, though he was absent due to injury as the star-studded London Knights swept Oshawa in the OHL Final.

Daily Faceoff lead prospect analyst Steven Ellis ranked Sennecke the 13th-best prospect in a defense-heavy class. Few of the players ahead of him have such intriguing tools.

If Sennecke can parlay those tools into more points in the OHL next season, Anaheim will feel confident they have drafted a key part of their top-six going forward.
