Ducks’ Trevor Zegras to have hearing for hit on Red Wings’ Michael Rasmussen

As reported by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli and confirmed by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras is set to have a hearing for his hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings forward Michael Rasmussen during Sunday’s 5-4 overtime loss to Detroit.

No penalty was handed out on the play. Rasmussen was slow to get up and would not return to the game following the hit.

The 23-year-old has tallied seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 34 games this season. Zegras missed nearly two months of action following knee surgery early in the season.

Through part of five seasons with Anaheim, the 2019 first-round pick has recorded 62 goals and 108 assists for 170 points through 245 career contests, underscored by his career-high 65-point finish in 2022-23. The Ducks initially chose Zegras ninth overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Per PuckPedia, Zegras is in the second year of a three-year pact that carries a $5.75-million annual average value. Zegras is due to become a restricted free agent in the 2026 offseason.

Rasmussen has racked up nine goals and 16 points in 56 games this season with Detroit. Rasmussen put up a career-high 33 points in 75 games during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Surrey, British Columbia native signed a four-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $3.2 million per season last season.

Rasmussen was selected No. 9 overall in the 2017 NHL Draft by Detroit after scoring 32 goals and 55 points in 50 Western Hockey League (WHL) games with the Tri-City Americans. Rasmussen made the Red Wings full-time in 2018-19 before heading down to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins the following year. He finally became a full-time NHLer in 2021-22 and has consistently produced at least 20 points a season ever since.
