While both Desbiens and Philips are first-time nominees, this is the second consecutive year Frankel has been nominated.

Desbiens finished the year at or near the top of nearly all statistical categories, leading with 15 wins, a 1.86 goals against average (GAA) and .932 save percentage (SC%). Among starting goaltenders, her two regulation losses were the fewest. At one point, Desbiens had a stretch of 14 consecutive games where she allowed two or fewer goals.

As mentioned earlier, this is the second time Frankel was named a finalist for Goaltender of the Year. In 23 starts, Frankel made a league-high 591 saves, finishing second in total wins with 12, second in save percentage with a .921, and fifth with a 2.28 GAA. The 25-year-old had five 35-save performances through the season, and went 3-0 in shootouts, stopping 12 of 13 attempts.

As for Philips, a third-round pick for the Charge in the 2024 PWHL Draft, she was thrown into action after Emerence Maschmeyer went down with an injury. She won five of her eight straight starts to end the season, including six games allowing two or fewer goals. She finished the season with an 8-5-1-0 record, .919 SV% and 2.11 GAA.
