Anthony Stolarz continues to steal games for the Maple Leafs
Anthony Stolarz continues to be the MVP of the Toronto Maple Leafs‘ 2024-25 season.
From tandem partner Joseph Woll going down with an injury to start the year, to the Maple Leafs dealing with a slew of injuries up front, Stolarz continues to have a breakout season in Toronto. The 30-year-old netminder has posted a 9-5-2 record to start his Maple Leafs’ tenure, with an impressive 2.13 goals against average, and a league leading .928 save percentage.
Stolarz signed in Toronto this past offseason on a two-year deal worth $2.5 million AAV, and the Maple Leafs are getting serious bang for their buck with their new goaltender. Toronto has a 17-9-2 record to this point, with Stolarz being an integral reason for the team’s success.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed Stolarz’s start and how he’s essentially put the Maple Leafs on his back.
Yaremchuk: The Toronto Maple Leafs picked up an overtime win up against their old head coach Sheldon Keefe. And I found it funny that all the Leafs’ fans were saying this was a classic Sheldon Keefe-loss, where his team (New Jersey Devils) put up a ton of shots, got absolutely nothing going on the power play, got ‘goalied’ and lost a one-goal game.
Auston Matthews got the last laugh with the OT winner. Star of the show though, was Anthony Stolarz, and it continues to be for Toronto.
Seravalli: Yeah, and will all due respect to anyone who wants to point out the great season that Mitch Marner is having, and he’s certainly been their best skater, there is zero question in my mind who the MVP of the Toronto Maple Leafs is so far this season and it’s Anthony Stolarz.
The amazing part about this year is, that he is now approaching, getting closer to at least, his career high in games played. That’s been the big question that everybody asks is – can Anthony Stolarz all-season long, from start to finish, either in tandem or as a guy that takes the ball and runs with it, can he play 50 games and hold up?
I see now signs of this guy slowing down. He’s so big, and he’s also so controlled. You look at his save percentage so far this year, he’s given this team a huge shot in the arm, and a boost in confidence. It’s not that they haven’t had reason to, they’ve won a few games that they probably shouldn’t have along the way. Which is the mark of a true good goalie.
Yaremchuk: A mark of a true good goalie, and the mark of a true Stanley Cup contender as well.
