After a string of wins and impressive performances, the New York Islanders now find themselves just four points back of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

But even with the recent hot streak, there’s still five teams between them and the Tampa Bay Lightning, who hold the No. 2 Wild Card spot, and three of those teams teams are in their division.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL defenseman Colby Cohen discuss the Islanders’ recent string of games and what they should do for the rest

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Islanders have rattled off five straight wins, their 8-2-0 in their last 10, and by points percentage they’re tied with the New York Rangers. And yet, Frank Seravalli’s trade targets board is littered with New York Islanders like Kyle Palmieri, Brock Nelson.

We know Lou Lamoriello is not the type of general manager to sit there and punt on a season if his team has a shot. If you’re an Islanders fan, there has to be a part of you that’s like, “Stop winning, we need to sell, we’re not going to win a Stanley Cup and our GM won’t do the right thing unless we’re 20 points out of a playoff spot.”

Colby Cohen: I have to think this is Lou’s last year, I just can’t see a world where he comes back. The Islanders have just been an average team for forever.

But I’ll tell you what I like: I like the Tony DeAngelo signing, I like the Scott Perunovich trade, both being players who can move the puck. Are they great defensive players? They haven’t been in their careers, but is Patrick Roy going to get a little more defending out of both of them? Potentially. But they’re low-cost, low-risk with good upside.

To me, both of those guys make your team a little bit faster, a little bit more fluid in the offensive zone, and the Islanders have struggled to score goals all season.
