According to PHNX’s Craig Morgan, center Barrett Hayton is set to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering an injury against Columbus on Thursday night.

Hayton, 23, suffered his injury early in the second period last night. He appeared to be grimacing after scoring his goal to tie the game in the first period. He had just the goal and three shots in 7:57 of ice time as the Coyotes went on to to win 3-2.

Haton has struggled for the Coyotes, scoring just four points in 16 games with the club. The 23-year-old had a breakout season last year, scoring a career-best 19 goals and 43 points in 82 games in his fourth NHL season.

Losing Hayton will be a big blow for the Coyotes, with Hayton serving as the team’s No. 1 center. This would offer Logan Cooley to step up further in the lineup. The rookie is off to an excellent start with 12 points in 16 games, putting him firmly in the Calder Trophy conversation.

Morgan also reported that Jan Jenik will get the call from the AHL’s Tuscon Roadrunners. Jenik, 23, has five points in nine NHL games this year and has recorded five points in 17 NHL games thus far. He last played with the big club on April 13, 2023, registering no shots in 7:50 of ice time.

Forward Matias Maccelli also left Thursday’s game early after taking a puck to the face and losing several teeth in the second period. According to Morgan, he’s expected to be OK.

Arizona will travel to face the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday before returning home for a two-game homestand against Los Angeles on Monday and St. Louis on Wednesday. The team sits fourth in the Central Division with 18 points, sitting in a tie with Winnipeg for third.
