It was reported last month by Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports that Jenik was seeking a trade this off-season as he looked for a fresh start in the NHL. However, it seems he and the Coyotes were able to agree on terms to keep him in the desert.
Jenik spent the 2022-23 season with the Coyotes American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners; he registered seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 30 games. He appeared in two games with the Coyotes, where he was held pointless.
Jenik has appeared in 17 career NHL games in three seasons and has tallied four goals and one assist. Most of his time has been spent in the AHL with Tucson; in 110 AHL games, he has tallied 30 goals and 54 assists for 84 points. Jenik ranks in the top ten in Roadrunners franchise history for goals (30-8th), assists (54-10th), penalty minutes (167-8th) and total points (84-10th).
The Coyotes initially selected the Nymburk, Czech Republic product in the third round, No. 65 overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. Prior to his pro career, Jenik was a first-round No. 6 overall selection in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft by the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In 2019, his rights were dealt to the Hamilton Bulldogs. Jenik joined Hamilton halfway through the 2018-19 season and registered 30 points in 27 games. During the 2019-20 campaign, he tallied 22 goals and 34 assists for 56 points in 27 games. Jenik missed time that season due to a knee injury sustained at the 2020 IIHF World Juniors.
