A concerning outcome in what was a positive result for the Colorado Avalanche.

During the team’s game on Tuesday night against the Seattle Kraken, Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar left during the second period with what has been reported as an undisclosed injury.

The Avalanche went on to win the game, 6-3. Makar notched two assists in the game, registering 15:07 of ice time across 14 shifts. He put three shots on goal and blocked two shots.

It has not been made public what exactly Makar hurt, but head coach Jared Bednar told the media after the victory that Makar “tweaked something” during the middle stanza.

More updates are expected in the near future.

The injury comes after Makar continued his impressive start to the 2024-25 campaign. With another couple of points on Tuesday, not only did it mark the third straight game where the 2019 Hobey Baker Award winner scored two points, but it also continued his point streak that dates back to last year’s playoffs. Since Colorado’s second-round exit at the hands of the Dallas Stars last May, Makar has put up points in 15 consecutive games, including the first 13 of this young season.

So far, the 26-year-old has five goals and 18 assists for 23 points, placing him second on the team and the NHL in scoring, only trailing teammate Nathan MacKinnon.

The hot start for Makar is piggybacking off a dominant 2023-24 campaign where he put up career highs in assists (69) and points (90). He has also registered 80 points in 72 postseason games, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy when the Avs won the Stanley Cup in 2022.

In 328 regular-season appearances, Makar has scored 91 goals and 268 assists for 359 points, with a plus/minus of +100.

The Avalanche (6-7-0) are currently sixth in the Central Division in points (12) and winning percentage (.462). They are scheduled to face the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night.
