Avalanche’s Miles Wood placed on injured reserve; Chris Wagner recalled
The Colorado Avalanche announced Thursday that right winger Miles Wood has been added to the injured reserve with an upper-body injury. In a corresponding roster move, right winger Chris Wagner was recalled from the AHL’s Colorado Eagles.
Facing the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, Wood saw 10:43 in ice time and finished the night with one shot and a minus-one rating. In all, 2024-25 has been an injury-riddled campaign for the veteran forward, who earlier this month missed a seven-game stretch due to an upper-body ailment. On the season, Wood has made 16 appearances in which he has registered two goals and one assist for three points.
Wood is skating in his second season with the Avalanche. The 29-year-old native of Buffalo, N.Y., finished last season with 26 points counting nine goals and 17 assists in 74 contests. Wood is in the second year of a six-year contract that carries a $2.5-million annual average value, per PuckPedia.
Prior to signing with the Avalanche in 2023 as an unrestricted free agent, Wood spent part of eight seasons with the New Jersey Devils. In 492 career contests, he has registered 89 goals and 88 assists for 177 points.
For Wagner, the journeyman forward rejoins the NHL squad after being placed on waivers twice this season, while Thursday’s transaction also marks his fourth recall of the 2024-25 season. The Walpole, Mass., native has registered one goal through 12 appearances with the Avalanche this season, while also lighting the lamp once through five outings with the Eagles.
On the season, the Avalanche sit 13-10-0, holding down the the first wildcard position in the Western Conference with 26 points. The Avalanche came away with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Golden Knights on Wednesday and will look to keep up their winning ways when the club heads to Texas on Friday to take on the Dallas Stars.
