Avalanche’s Ross Colton to miss 6-8 weeks; Miles Wood out 7-10 days
Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told reporters on Wednesday that Ross Colton is out 6-8 weeks with a broken foot and has been placed on injured reserve.
Colton got the injury during Monday’s 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks after blocking a shot with his foot. Colton was seen leaving the arena in a walking boot that evening.
Colton has tallied eight goals and nine points through the first 10 games this season and has been one of Colorado’s most productive players.
The Robbinsville, New Jersey native has 71 goals and 60 assists for 131 points in 278 career regular-season games with the Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning over the last five seasons.
Colton was originally drafted by the Lightning in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the first five years of his professional career with Tampa’s organization, playing two full seasons with the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.
In 2020-21, Colton was called up to the NHL club, scoring nine goals and three assists for 12 points in 30 games. He would dress in 23 playoff games that spring, helping the Lightning win their third Stanley Cup championship in franchise history and second back-to-back.
After several productive seasons with Tampa Bay, he was traded to the Avalanche in exchange for their second-round pick of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Additionally, the Avs will be without Miles Wood for 7-10 days with an upper-body injury.
Colorado currently sits in fifth in the Central Division with a 5-5-0 record and will play Tampa Bay on Wednesday.
