A handful of players have been made available to 31 other teams in the NHL, as 17 names were placed on waivers on Thursday.

One of the notable players put on the wire is forward Alex Jonsson-Fjällby. The 26-year-old was placed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets, something that also happened last February. In 2023-24 with the Jets, he played in 26 games, scoring two goals and five points. Jonsson-Fjällby spent the remainder of the year with Winnipeg’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, scoring 12 goals and 30 points in 41 games with the Moose.

The Swede joined the Jets after being claimed off waivers from the Washington Capitals in Oct. 2022. Almost a year earlier, he was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Sabres from the Capitals before Washington reclaimed him when the Sabres put him back on waivers the following week.

Another player that might be heading back to the minors is defenseman Nick Blankenburg. The 26-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Nashville Predators this past summer after spending two-plus seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 2023-24, the former Michigan Wolverine appeared in just 12 games with the Blue Jackets, scoring one goal. It was a sharp decrease from the 36 games he appeared in 2022-23.

In 55 games with the Blue Jackets, Blankenburg scored six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.

Here is the full list of players that were put on waivers on Thursday:

Calgary Flames: Walker Duehr, Dryden Hunt, Jarred Tinordi
Florida Panthers: Rasmus Asplund, Tobias Björnfot, Zac Dalpe, Jaycob Megna
Nashville Predators: Nick Blankenburg
Seattle Kraken: Cale Fleury
Toronto Maple Leafs: Nick Abruszzese
Utah Hockey Club: Andrew Agozzino, Patrik Koch, Ben McCartney
Winnipeg Jets: Axel Jonsson-Fjällby, Simon Lundmark, Mason Shaw, Dominic Toninato

Another familiar name on waivers on Thursday is Jarred Tinordi. The veteran defender signed a one-year contract with the Flames last month after spending the last two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. Last season, the 32-year-old played in 52 games, registering nine assists. In 205 career NHL appearances, Tinordi has scored four goals and 30 points with a career plus/minus of -63.

Thursday’s total is a little more than the number of players put on waivers on Wednesday. 12 players from the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks were put on the wire. All players cleared.
