Barkov, Bergeron, Lindholm named Selke Trophy finalists
On Tuesday morning, the NHL announced the finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy, the award bestowed upon “the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.”
This year’s finalists, which were selected by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, are Aleksander Barkov of the Florida Panthers, Calgary Flames forward Elias Lindholm, and of course, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.
Barkov won the award last season, and logged plenty of minutes for the Panthers this season while authoring the fourth-best plus-minus rating league-wide with 36.
Bergeron, 36, picked up his 11th consecutive Selke Trophy nomination today and has won the award four times in his career.
Lindholm was a defensive stalwart for the Calgary Flames this season, leading all Flames forwards in blocked shots and ice time per game. He also was one of the NHL’s top face-off performers, ranking third overall in total face-offs (1,592) and fifth in face-off wins (842) for a 52.9% win percentage. This is the first NHL Award finalist nomination of Lindholm’s career.
The winners of the 2022 NHL awards will be unveiled during the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals.
