Big win over Toronto Maple Leafs was a huge boost for struggling Buffalo Sabres
After a struggling week that saw the Buffalo Sabres lose 9-4 to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Sabres turned it around and found themselves in the win column in a big game over Toronto. Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discussed how that win for the Sabres can help rejuvenate them.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Yes, it was a Buffalo Sabres home game but in a barn full of Toronto Maple Leafs fans, the Sabres ultimately got the last laugh; it was Kyle Okposo literally laughing on the bench after they got their sixth goal of the game. The Sabres popped home nine goals against the Maple Leafs, sending fans on a long car ride home back over the border pretty disappointed. This was a stomping all around, I always like seeing the Sabres do this. When you have home ice and in front of home fans, that must have felt good.
Frank Seravalli: Well it must have felt especially good after that last game when you heard the chants of “fire Donny” in the building, calling for the coach’s head, upset with GM Kevyn Adams. They wonder if Terry Pegula is going to step in for a team that has the longest playoff drought in the NHL. For me, to see that all play out was like an all-in on hockey present. You don’t know what you’re going to get each night, you come out with a game like that and Auston Matthews called it one of the worst games he’s seen since joining the Maple Leafs.
Frank Seravalli: There’s no real predicting this sport and more than that I think for the Sabres moving forward you can almost see it coming. Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News, during the game against Columbus, was tweeting “Of course they’ll beat the Leafs on Thursday night” It’s like you could see it. Good for the Sabres to bounce back.
