Blackhawks sign Craig Smith and Pat Maroon to one-year contracts

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that they have signed veterans Craig Smith and Pat Maroon.

According to the reports, Smith is signing a one-year, $1 million contract, while Maroon has agreed to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.

Chicago also signed Tyler Bertuzzi and Teuvo Teravainen to contract this morning, GM Kyle Davidson has been busy.

Smith spent the 2023-24 campaign with the Dallas Stars where he notched 20 points in 75 games. This will be Smith’s fourth NHL team in the last four seasons after stints with the Nashville Predators, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals and the Stars.

Maroon spent the 2023-24 campaign with Minnesota and Boston where he compiled four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 49 games. Maroon mostly spent time with the Wild during the regular season, only suiting up for two games with the Bruins during the regular season but made 13 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.

Maroon’s veteran leadership will bring a new face to the Blackhawks’ younger locker room. The 36-year-old won one Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 and two with Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021.
