The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward Landon Slaggert to a two-year, $900,000 AAV contract extension. Both years are one-way deals.

Slaggert appeared in 16 games with the Blackhawks during the 2023-24 campaign where he tallied one goal and four points.

Slaggert wrapped up his career with the University of Notre Dame, scoring a career-high 20 goals and 31 points with the Fighting Irish before making his NHL debut last season. The 22-year-old finishes his college career with 47 goals and 92 points in 136 games while also serving as an alternate captain over the past two seasons.

The South Bend, Indiana native was also nominated for the Hobey Baker Award during the 2023-24 season, awarded to the NCAA’s top men’s hockey player.

Slaggert, a winger, was drafted 79th overall in 2020. He spent two years with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program from 2018-20. Slaggert took part in two World Junior Championships with the Americans, highlighted by a gold medal in 2021.

Slaggert’s younger brother, Carter, just finished his freshman season with Notre Dame. Their older brother, Graham, is currently with Rochester in his second pro-AHL season after finishing his four-year run with the Fighting Irish in 2022.

Slaggert is an energetic forward who can play a bottom-six role and can take space around the net. While he won’t likely be a big-time offensive producer in the NHL, his work ethic should allow him to hang around, at least in the short-term. He is currently with the Blackhawks AHL affiliate the Rockford Ice Hogs.
