Blackhawks sign Laurent Brossoit to two-year, $3.3 million AAV contract

The Windy City is receiving some assurance between the pipes.

On Monday, Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli reported that goaltender Laurent Brossoit is signing a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The deal will carry a $3.3 million AAV through the end of the 2025-26 season.

The signing gives the Blackhawks a couple of experienced goaltenders, as Chicago signed Petr Mrazek to a two-year contract extension this past season. The total cap hit between he and Brossoit is $7.55 million.

Brossoit has been one of the underrated netminders in the NHL over the past few seasons. The Port Alberni, British Columbia native is coming to Chicago after spending the 2023-24 season with the Winnipeg Jets, his second stint with the franchise. In 23 games backing up Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck, Brossoit went 15-5-2 with a 2.00 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and three shutouts. He made one relief appearance for Hellebuyck during the Jets’ opening-round loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

The 31-year-old returned to Winnipeg after two seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights, where he was a huge part of the team winning the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2023. He appeared in eight games during last year’s playoffs, going 5-2 with a 3.18 GAA and .894 SV%, before stepping back as Adin Hill to the reins on the way to the Cup.

Across 10 seasons and 140 games, Brossoit, who also played with the Edmonton Oilers, has a record of 64-46-13 with a 2.64 GAA, a .911 SV% and six shutouts.

The former Edmonton Oil King has made eight appearances in the playoffs in his career, including one with the Oilers in 2017, registering a 3.13 GAA and .890 SV%.

Brossoit was originally taken by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
