St. Louis Blues head coach Drew Bannister has announced that defenseman Philip Broberg will be out 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Broberg left Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after getting tangled up on the boards with Mitch Marner in which Broberg’s leg awkwardly bent as he fell to the ice. The Swedish defender laid on the ice hurt for a few minutes before being helped on the ice by teammates and trainers.

Broberg registered 10:17 of ice time across 12 shifts in the game.

The 23-year-old has racked up two goals and seven assists for nine points in 12 games to start the 2024-25 season while averaging over 20 minutes a game with a plus/minus of +6.

Broberg came to the Blues this past offseason after Blues general manager Doug Armstrong made a big swing when he offer-sheeted Broberg and Dylan Holloway after finishing the last seasons of their latest contracts with the Edmonton Oilers. Both players signed the offers, with the Oilers choosing not to match. Broberg signed a two-year, $4,580,917 AAV, with Edmonton receiving a second-round pick in next year’s NHL Draft as compensation.

Broberg has never played a full season in the NHL, consistently going up and down between the Oilers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. In 92 NHL appearances, he has scored four goals and 18 assists for 22 points, including playing in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games over the past three years, notching three points.

The Blues are slated to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, the Utah Hockey Club on Thursday and Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
