The NHL waiver wire saw plenty of activity Wednesday ahead of the March 7 NHL trade deadline.

In Boston, the Bruins waived defenseman Jordan Oesterle. Through 22 appearances with the Bruins this season, the 32-year-old native of Dearborn Heights, Mich., has recorded one goal and five assists for six points with two penalty minutes and a plus-three rating. Oesterle has also seen nine showings with the AHL affiliated Providence Bruins with whom he has notched three goals and five assists for eight points. Per PuckPedia, Oesterle is in the first year of a two-year contract worth $775,000 per season.

In Detroit, the Red Wings placed right winger Christian Fischer on waivers. In 47 showings with the Red Wings this season, the 27-year-old Chicagoan has scored one goal and added six assists for seven points coupled with 11 penalty minutes and a minus-five rating. Through 522 career contests with the former Arizona Coyotes and Red Wings, Fischer has totaled 62 goals and 75 assists for 137 points. According to PuckPedia, Fischer carries a $1.125-million cap hit and can become an unrestricted free agent in July.

In Florida, Jesse Puljujarvi was placed on waivers after agreeing to an NHL contract with the Panthers, reports TSN’s Chris Johnston. In February, Puljujarvi joined the Panthers’ AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers on a minor-league contract. With the Checkers, Puljujarvi posted three assists in seven outings. Puljujarvi originally joined the Checkers after having his contract mutually terminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins in early February. With the Penguins this season, the 26-year-old forward posted three goals and six assists for nine points in 26 games.

Lastly, in Washington, the Capitals waived left winger Jakub Vrana. Through 26 appearances with the Capitals this season, the 29-year-old Czech-born forward has recorded 11 points counting seven goals and four assists. Originally chosen 13th overall by Washington in the 2014 NHL Draft, Vrana has recorded 220 points through 393 career contests with the Capitals, Red Wings, and St. Louis Blues. Per PuckPedia, Vrana carries a $775,000 annual average value and can become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason.
