The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced Thursday that Boston Bruins defenseman Michael Callahan has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking against Anaheim Ducks forward Jansen Harkins.

The incident occurred at 13:56 of the second period, Callahan was assessed a double minor for high sticking. Both Callahan and Harkins would later drop the gloves in a spirited fight.

Callahan has tallied zero points in 14 contests with the Bruins this season. The 25-year-old has spent the majority of the season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Providence Bruins, where he has tallied eight points in 43 games. Before turning pro, Callahan spent four seasons playing college hockey with the Providence Friars. Between 2018-19 and 2021-22, the Franklin, Mass. native scored 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points in 138 games.

Taken by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Callahan spent parts of two seasons in the USHL, scoring three goals and 15 assists for 18 points in 61 games with the Youngstown Phantoms, Central Illinois Flying Aces and Bloomington Thunder.

Meanwhile, Harkins has tallied two goals and six points in 54 games with Anaheim this season. Harkins has also spent time in the AHL with the San Diego Gulls, where he racked up five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 11 games.

Last summer, Harkins signed a two-year contract worth an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000 in 2024-25 and $800,000 in 2025-26. Harkins was claimed off waivers and spent the 2023-24 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. While with Pittsburgh, Harkins appeared in 45 games and tallied four assists. While in the AHL, Harkins racked up five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 14 games.
