Boston Bruins sign Frederic Brunet to entry-level contract

The Boston Bruins have signed prospect Frederic Brunet to a three-year, entrey-level contract. He was originally selected by the team in the fifth-round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Brunet is a 20-year-old defenseman who played his junior career with the Rimouski Oceanic and Victoriaville Tigers. He was drafted out of Rimouski in the 2021-22 season, but was traded to Victoriaville during the 2022-23 season.
This past year, Brunet scored 16 goals and 73 points in 66 games split between the two teams. He also made his professional debut, scoring two assists in the lone AHL game of his career.
“With an ever-growing offensive game and strong leadership abilities,” Nate Duffett of DobberProspects wrote, “Brunet could be a name to watch after some more time to develop. If Brunet ever gets a chance on an NHL
blueline, he has the tools to contribute from a fantasy perspective.”
Brunet will likely play for the Providence Bruins in the AHL this year and work on his defensive game. The former fifth-rounder is an underrated prospect and could be knocking on the door for an NHL job in the near future. At 6-foot-3 and 189 lbs. Brunet has the size to be a capable NHLer, he just needs to work on his play in his own zone.
Over the last four seasons in the QMJHL, Brunet has scored 29 goals and 128 points in 163 games as one of the better offensive defensemen in the CHL.
