The Boston Bruins have signed goaltender Brandon Bussi to a one-year, two-way contract extension, the club announced Monday afternoon.

Bussi, 24, posted a 22–5–4 record, a .924 save percentage, and one shutout in 32 games with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins during the 2022–23 regular season.

The six-foot-four goaltender from Sound Beach, N.Y. appeared in an additional four games during the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs, going 1–3 with a .926 save percentage.

According to CapFriendly, Bussi’s new two-way contract will see him paid a $775,000 salary in the NHL during the 2023–24 regular season.

The Bruins originally signed Bussi as an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan University in 2022. He had been set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Bussi posted a 26–12–1 record, four shutouts, and a .912 save percentage in 39 games as a junior at Western Michigan in 2021–22. He went 3–2–0 with a .920 save percentage in five AHL games with Providence that season after turning pro.

During his first full professional season, Bussi briefly toiled with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners before establishing himself as the starter in Providence down the stretch. He earned a spot in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic along the way.

For now, Bussi — who has yet to make his NHL debut — is firmly in third on the Bruins’ goaltending depth chart. Presumptive Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark should return as the starter next year, while Jeremy Swayman is still an RFA in need of a new deal.

The Bruins won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2022–23 after going 65–12–5 with 135 points during the regular season. But after all that, they blew a 3–1 lead to the Florida Panthers in the first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs and were eliminated in seven games.
