Boston Bruins sign Jackson Edward to three-year, entry-level contract
The Boston Bruins have announced the signing of Boston Bruins defenseman Jackson Edward to a three-year, entry-level contract worth $860,000.
Drafted 200th overall by the Bruins in 2022, Edward has two goals and six points in 10 games with the London Knights this year. Currently in his third season with the organization, Edward had five goals and 25 points in 65 games last year and 37 points in 129 career games.
Edward’s real bread and butter is playing a strong physical game. The 6-foot-2, 193-pound defender had a career-high 110 penalty minutes last year and tallied four PIM in two separate games this past week.
Drafted 22nd overall in 2020 by the Knights, Edward will play a big part in the team’s quest to win the OHL title and take the league’s second spot with Saginaw at the Memorial Cup. The hard-hitting, playmaking defender had a good run in London’s top four during the playoffs last year, with six points to show for in 19 games.
Edward was one of six players taken by the Bruins, with second-rounder Matthew Poitras sitting at three goals and four points in six games with Boston this year. The Bruins also previously signed defenseman Frederic Brunet to an entry-level contract after taking him 132nd in 2022.
The Bruins are the top team in the Eastern Conference this year, boasting a 6-0-0 record with just seven goals allowed, the fewest in the league. It comes after many expected a step back for the club that set an NHL record for the best regular season in NHL history in 2023-24.
Boston will host Anaheim on Thursday before battling with Detroit on Saturday, Florida on Monday and Toronto on Nov. 2. They’ll head back on the road to face the Red Wings on Nov. 4, with the Bruins looking to keep their winning streak alive.
