As Bruins keep slipping, can they still salvage a playoff push?
Things are once again in disarray in New England.
The Boston Bruins started off the 2024-25 season struggling out of the gate, sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. However, things started to turn around after the team fired head coach Jim Montgomery, promoting Joe Sacco to the team’s interim bench boss.
Yet, after the “dead-cat bounce,” the Bruins find themselves stumbling down the Atlantic Division standings once again, thanks to losing six straight games, including five in regulation. Their 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, even with it being on the road, showed how far the team has strayed away from their brief success under the appointment of Sacco.
Boston has fallen completely out of the playoff race, yet, even though they fell out of the top three in the division, the team’s performances aren’t giving many fans optimism as the second half of the season begins.
Heading into Friday night’s action, the B’s are in the first Wild Card spot in the East, just one point clear of ninth place.
On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk give their thoughts on whether the Bruins can turn things around in time to stay in the postseason hunt.
Tyler Yaremchuk: What percent chance do you give the Bruins of making the playoffs?
Frank Seravalli: I’m going to give them 50 percent. It’s not much higher than that. I say it every day on the show – a team that is severely underachieved. You get a good week or two out of Jeremy Swayman and the team’s going to turn the corner.
Tyler: That’s totally fair. A lot of problems route back to goaltending. Again, that Bruins team, it’s a similar core that’s gotten the job done before. No reason they can’t go on some sort of a second-half heater.
