The Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils made a minor league trade ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline.

After saying farewell to captain Brad Marchand in a trade with the Florida Panthers, the Bruins traded for 24-year-old defenseman Daniil Misyul in exchange for 25-year-old center Marc McLaughlin.

Misyul is in just his second season in North America after playing with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the KHL from 2018 through 2023. He made his NHL debut earlier this season, playing just a single game for the Devils, and spending most of the season in the AHL, where he has eight assists and no goals in 47 games with the Utica Comets.

A third-round pick, 70th overall by the Devils in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Misyul holds Belarusian and Russian citizenship and has represented Russia internationally at the 2020 World Juniors, World Junior A Challenge and the European Hockey Tour.

McLaughlin, who signed with the Bruins as a free agent, was a standout through four seasons of NCAA hockey at Boston College and has since bounced between the AHL Providence Bruins and the NHL club in Boston.

McLaughlin has two goals this season in 12 NHL games while posting five goals and 14 points in 34 AHL games. In his 26-game NHL career, the North Billerica, MA native has six goals but is still searching for his first assist.

Likely to move to their respective new AHL clubs in Utica and Providence, the two could meet up on April 7, when the Bruins head to the Adirondack Bank Center. Providence currently sits second in the Atlantic Division, only trailing the Washington Capitals affiliate, Hershey Bears, while Utica is the last of seven North Division teams.

In the NHL, the Devils are dealing with significant injuries to star players, including Jack Hughes, but remain in the hunt for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. At the same time, the Bruins sit seventh in the Atlantic Division and look to have eyes towards the future, given their moves at the Trade Deadline.
