The 23-year-old defender spent two seasons at Boston College before transferring to The Ohio State University, where she helped the club win a National Championship in 2023-24.
Through five NCAA seasons, Hartmetz scored 21 goals and 67 assists for 88 points with a plus-minus of 105 in 170 career games.
“Hadley is an exciting add to our d-core,” Fleet General Manager Danielle Marmer said in a team statement. “She fits nicely into our physical, hard defending style, while also providing transportability and offensive involvement. She brings a competitiveness and work ethic that will push her teammates and make us better.”
Internationally, Hartmetz represented the U.S. and earned a gold medal and silver medal in the 2019 and 2018 Under-18 women’s tournaments, respectively.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the PWHL and it is an honor to sign with the Boston Fleet,” Hartmetz said. “I am really looking forward to getting on the ice and helping the team this season. This is truly a dream come true.”
Boston went 12-9-3 with 35 wins last season, finishing third in league standings. They defeated Montreal in the first round of the PWHL playoffs, then lost in five games to Boston in the Walter Cup Finals.
Forward Alina Muller led the team in points with 16 (five goals and 11 assists). Hilary Knight led the team in goals with six, and teammate Lexie Adzija, acquired at the trade deadline from Ottawa, also finished with six (five with Ottawa, one with Boston). Both Muller and Megan Keller were tied with 11 assists.
