There is some movement in the Boston Bruins system to address a hole between the pipes.

On Thursday, the team called up goaltender Brandon Bussi from their American Hockey League, the Providence Bruins.

The Bruins also revealed the goaltender Linus Ullmark and forward Matthew Poitras are day-to-day with undisclosed injuries.

Both Ullmark and Poitras were injured in Boston’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Arizona Coyotes. Ullmark went down after trying to make a glove save during the overtime, and had to be helped off the ice and into the dressing room.

Jeremy Swayman ended up getting beat on the first shot he faced in relief.

Poitras looked to have injured his shoulder after delivering a check in the third period, and was unable to play the rest of the game.

This is the second time in over a month that Bussi has been recalled to the NHL. The former Western Michigan University star was called up to the Bruins on Dec. 7, backing up Ullmark in a 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, before getting sent down the next day.

Bussi will be backing up Swayman in the Bruins’ matchup on the road against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.

The 25-year-old has yet to make an appearance in the NHL, and he might not get into any game action if Ullmark’s ailment turns out to be not severe.

Bussi has certainly worked his way into becoming one of the top goaltending prospects in the AHL. After a great rookie season, where he was named to the Atlantic Division squad at the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic, the Sound Beach, N.Y. native is 10-6-3 with a 2.94 goals-against average and .915 save percentage with Providence.

The Bruins (24-8-8) will be finishing up their four-game Western Conference road trip on Saturday against the St. Louis Blues. They remain atop the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of the Florida Panthers. Boston is two points back of the Winnipeg Jets for the best record in the league.
