Bruins’ Hampus Lindholm week-to-week with lower-body injury
Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery gave an update on Wednesday on the status of defenseman Hampus Lindholm’s lower-body injury, saying that his timeline for return is “going to be weeks”.
Lindholm suffered the injury late in the first period of Tuesday’s 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues after blocking a shot from Blues defenseman Justin Faulk. Lindholm went to the locker room after the blocked shot, and did not return to the bench for the second period, with the Bruins confirming that he wouldn’t return to the game shortly after.
Lindholm was off to a solid start to the season, with 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points in 17 games so far this season. He’s also been the Bruins only positive play driver on their blueline this season with a 55.11% 5v5 expected goal share, according to Evolving Hockey.
With both Lindholm and Andrew Peeke out with injuries, the Bruins currently only have five active defensemen on their NHL roster, so a roster move should be expected before Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars.
Mason Lohrei will likely assume Lindholm’s role in the top four during his absence. He currently has 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points in 13 games played this season.
Lindholm was a former sixth-overall pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2012 NHL Draft, and after making his NHL debut in the 2013-14 season, he spent parts of nine seasons with the Ducks. He was then traded to the Bruins at the 2022 trade deadline, and has since played parts of four seasons in Boston.
Lindholm is currently in the third year of an eight-year contract with a $6.5 million contract, one he signed with the team shortly after he was acquired by the team in 2022.
The Bruins will look to build off of their win over the Blues when they visit the Stars in Dallas on Thursday at 8 p.m. EST. Boston currently sits in third in the Atlantic Division with an 8-7-2 record.
