Only one player hit the wire on Tuesday as the Boston Bruins placed defenseman Alec Regula on waivers.

If he clears on Wednesday, he is eligible to be assigned to Boston’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

Regula started the 2024-25 on the injured non-roster list after having knee surgery this past summer. It came right after he re-signed with the Bruins, coming on board for another year on a two-way contract with an NHL cap hit of $775,000.

The West Bloomfield, Michigan’s first year with the organization was the 2023-24 season after he was involved in the deal that sent him and Ian Mitchell from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Bruins for Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall. Regula spent the entirety of the year in Providence. In 55 games, Regula scored four goals and 22 assists for 26 points, leading the AHL in plus/minus with a +36 rating.

Regula came to the Bruins after spending the first three seasons of his pro career with the Blackhawks. He bounced up and down between Chicago and its primary affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. The former London Knight appeared in a career-high 15 games with the Blackhawks during the 2021-22 campaign. He last saw NHL action on Nov. 16, 2022, playing just four games with Chicago that year.

In 22 career NHL games, Regula has scored just one goal. In 163 AHL appearances, he has notched 16 goals and 61 assists for 77 points, including two more in 10 Calder Cup Playoff games.

Boston (15-11-3) is starting to turn things around after a tough start to the season. The team now sits third in the Atlantic Division, three points back of the first-place Florida Panthers.

Providence (11-10-2) is fifth in the AHL’s Atlantic Division, 13 points behind the dominant Hershey Bears for first.
