The Buffalo Sabres announced Tuesday that Tage Thompson will be out day-to-day with an upper-body injury following the illegal check that New Jersey Devils forward Stefan Noesen delivered.

The Sabres also announced that defenseman Mattias Samuelsson will be out versus the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Sabres captain Alex Tuch said there was a team meeting on Monday to address the lack of response to the Tage Thompson hit. Head coach Lindy Ruff referred to it as having some “hard conversations.”

Thompson has notched 25 goals and 20 assists for 45 points in 46 games this season, leading the Sabres in goals and overall scoring.

After posting a career-best 47 goals and 94 points during the 2022-23 campaign, Thompson took a step back and tallied 29 goals and 59 points. During the 2021-22 season, Thompson emerged and notched 38 goals and 68 points in 78 games. That summer, Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams signed the Glendale, Arizona native to a monster seven-year, $50,000,000 contract.

Samuelsson has racked up three goals and six assists for nine points in 35 games this season.

Samuelsson was a second-round pick for the Sabres in the 2018 NHL Draft, and after two seasons with Western Michigan University, he made his professional debut in the 2020-21 season, even getting his NHL debut in that year as well. He’s currently in his fifth season with the Sabres.

Samuelsson is currently in the second year of a seven-year contract with a $4,285,714 cap hit.

Buffalo currently sits eighth in the Atlantic Division with a 21-26-5 record. The Sabres are slated to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night and the Nashville Predators on Saturday before the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
