Buffalo Sabres select Brodie Ziemer No. 71 overall in 2024 NHL Draft
Captain America has an NHL home.
On Saturday at The Sphere in Las Vegas, the Buffalo Sabres took forward Brodie Ziemer in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft, No. 71 overall.
Ziemer spent the 2023-24 campaign with the National Team Development Program (USNTDP) where he registered 27 goals and 43 assists for 70 points in 61 games. Ziemer captained Team USA at the IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship where he registered three goals and nine assists for 12 points in seven games.
Ziemer is quick, and checks the boxes of many skills that a GM looks for in a prospect; he’s fast, physical, forechecks hard and drives the play.
Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis, rated Ziemer as the No. 77 best-ranked prospect.
“I like Ziemer. The University of Minnesota commit isn’t high on anyone’s list, but from talking to his teammates, he’s always the guy they mention who is a natural-born leader. He’s the captain, so it makes sense, but he’s a solid goal-scorer who is smart enough to get himself out of sticky situations. I’m not sure about his skating, but I think there’s a chance for him to be a decent depth scorer at the next level.”
Ziemer is committed to playing at the University of Minnesota for the 2024-25 NCAA season.
Ziemer joins Konsta Helenius and Adam Kleber as the Sabres picks at the 2024 NHL Draft so far. They are slated to pick next with the No. 161 pick.
